MeBIC monitors statewide demographic trends and the labor needs of Maine’s businesses, and works collaboratively across sectors to maximize immigrants’ ability to contribute to Maine’s economy as workers, entrepreneurs, consumers, and citizens. MeBIC:
- Liaises with Maine’s business community to understand their labor needs and what resources, policies, or other mechanisms would help them successfully engage Maine’s immigrants in their workforce.
- Tracks and analyzes laws and policies at the federal, state and local levels and informs Maine’s businesses about their impact on Maine’s ability to attract, retain, and integrate immigrants into Maine’s workforce.
- Collaborates with Maine’s businesses, trade associations, chambers of commerce, and works in coalition with private and public partners in Maine and nationally to support initiatives and best practices that foster immigrant integration into Maine’s workforce, economy and society.
- Advocates for initiatives, laws, policies and resources that welcome immigrants and facilitate their ability to reach their full potential in Maine.
